The above REI Co-op’s Camp X offers some comfort and help for weight loss, while aptly named Camp Xtra as a more premium and feature-rich alternative. At 10 pounds, the Camp Extra is about 3 pounds heavier and significantly larger than Camp X, but the weight penalty comes with several upgrades. We especially like dual cup holders (sized to accommodate a variety of bottle and mug shapes), as well as side station pockets and a simple but easily broken leg design. And at 17.5 inches off the ground, the Xtra offers a much more natural seating position for most than the 10.5-inch Camp X.
Compared to Advanced Camp X, Camp Xtra is also inferior to the Alps King Kong in terms of value. Both chairs use Burley 600-denier fabrics, have the same storage layout, sit at the same distance from the ground, and are comfortable and spacious. However, the King Kong comes in a larger configuration of colorways, has a heavier weight limit (800 pounds vs. 400-lb. REI range, which reflects construction standards), and the surrounding Proud has a fairly wide seat. The REI weighs less and weighs less, but most campers worry about being wider than height.
